April 2018 – Veld Walk – Jakkalskop
Date: Time: - Our meeting this month will be a walk in the veld at Jakkalskop. It is interesting to see the different plants that are flowering now and in particular since our nice rain last week. One real treat will be to see if we can find some blooming Haworthia truncata. WHERE TO MEET We will meet in front of the Naked Lady Pub in Rand Street, Calitzdorp at at 14:00 and proceed from there. IMPORTANT Participants should wear shoes suitable for walking in the veld and bring water, a hat and sun protection.

March 2018 – General Meeting
Date: Time: - Calitzdorp Garden Tour With the onset of autumn and the welcome cooler weather we will be doing a tour of the gardens of some of our members in and around Calitzdorp. We will meet in front of Jako Voges’ buildings at 14:00 on Sunday, 11 March 2018 and go from there. The buildings are located at 10 Geyser Street across from the Calitzdorp Museum. We will depart from there and intend to visit a total of three gardens of which the final one will be that of Irma and Dewald Welman on Wesoewer.

Discover Mesembs: Veld Walk & Seed Workshop – 2 Dec 2017
Date: Time: - Join the Calitzdorp Succulent Society and Priscilla Burgoyne the Herbarium Curator at the Garden Route Botanical Gardens for a Veld Walk and Seed Workshop to discover and learn about the Mesembs (Vygies) in the veld of the Klein Karoo. The session will comprise of a 2-3 hour veld walk in the morning to discover, examine and learn about the Vygies that occur in the veld. The duration of the Veld Walk will depend on the temperature on the day. The Veld Walk will be followed in the afternoon by a Seed Workshop to learn about the fascinating seed dispersal methods employed by Vygies. Participants will have to opportunity to examine seed capsules up close under microscope and learn how they open under wet conditions to have the seeds shot out into the veld. Each participant will receive seeds to sow in a pot to take home. The day promise to be a fascinating and entertaining discovery of Mesembs and should not be missed.
